Why Isn't My Website Getting Leads?

Your website gets visitors but no enquiries? Here are the most common reasons a site fails to convert — and how to fix each one so traffic turns into leads.

A website that gets visitors but no enquiries is frustrating — and common. Usually it’s one of two problems: the wrong people are finding you, or the right people arrive and leave without acting. Here’s how to work out which, and what to do about it.

First: are you getting the right traffic?

Traffic alone means nothing if it’s the wrong audience. If you rank for broad, informational terms but not for buying-intent searches, you’ll get visitors who were never going to become customers.

The fix is targeting the searches your actual buyers use — “emergency plumber [suburb]”, “family lawyer near me”, “[product] Australia” — rather than vague, high-volume terms. This is the difference between browsers and buyers, and it’s the core of good keyword research.

Second: does your site earn the enquiry?

If the right people are arriving but not contacting you, the problem is on the page. Check these:

  • Is it obvious what you do and where you do it? Visitors decide in seconds. Your headline should state your service and location plainly.
  • Is there a clear call to action? Every page needs an obvious next step — call, enquire, book. If people have to hunt for how to contact you, they won’t.
  • Is it easy to contact you? A visible phone number, a short enquiry form, and click-to-call on mobile remove friction. A contact page that only offers a complicated process loses leads.
  • Do you give reasons to trust you? Reviews, guarantees, credentials and real information about your business turn a hesitant visitor into an enquiry.
  • Is it fast, especially on mobile? Most traffic is mobile. A slow or clunky site loses people before they ever read your offer. (See page speed and Core Web Vitals.)

Third: is the site fast and technically sound?

A slow, hard-to-use or poorly structured site quietly kills conversions and rankings at the same time. If pages take too long to load, or the site is awkward on a phone, visitors leave. Technical SEO and speed work fix the foundation so the rest of your effort isn’t wasted.

The honest diagnosis

Most “no leads” websites suffer from a combination: they rank for the wrong terms and the pages don’t convert the traffic they do get. Fixing one without the other rarely works. The goal is a site that attracts high-intent searchers and makes it effortless for them to enquire.

That’s exactly what an SEO campaign should deliver — the right traffic, arriving at pages built to convert. If your site is getting visitors but not enquiries, ask us for a free audit. We’ll show you where the leaks are and what it would take to turn that traffic into leads.
